The Vikings are Coming
Peerless Brewing are celebrating the arrival of a Viking Longship. Our new brew is Dragon Ship 4.8%, named in honour of the longships used by the Vikings on their travels.
The World’s largest-ever reconstructed Viking longship will set sail for Merseyside in its maiden overseas voyage from Norway – during next month’s Golf Open in Hoylake . The ship will spend time in the west float area of Birkenhead docks.
Draken Harald Harfagre, named after Norway’s most famous Viking king Harald the Fairhair, will be rowed down the Mersey after a three-week passage under sail from Haugesund, on the Norwegian west coast.
The 115ft-long ship, which was the vision of Norwegian businessman Sigurd Aase, its patron, will arrive at a time when the World’s media and thousands of visitors will be flocking to Wirral for the prestigious Open tournament at Royal Liverpool golf club .
The Viking vessel, which has a huge 2,800 sq ft sail made of pure silk, will be crewed by a hundred-strong “Viking Navy” of volunteers, many from Wirral, who travelled to Norway last year for a weekend of training sessions.
